After receiving a Master's Degree in Education, Basic Psychology in Brain and Cognitive Neuroscience Research Center, Liaoning Normal University, China, I started as a Ph.D. student at the Chair of "Developmental Psychology: Adulthood" at the University of Zurich (advisor: Alexandra M. Freund) in the project "Exhaustion and Recovery." The main aim of my dissertation is to develop and test a computational model of effort distinguishing between the costs and value of investing effort into the pursuit of a goal. My research questions are: How do people of different ages experience the investment of effort into the pursuit of goals? Which factors contribute to the experience of exhaustion after investing effort into their goal pursuit? Under which conditions does exhaustion lead to continuing or disengaging to invest effort into their goal pursuit?
Dissertation project:
The role of effort in exhaustion
